Diabetes mellitus, is a chronic metabolic disorder, where the body can not convert sugars, starches and other foods into energy. For this reason, it is important to know a diet suitable for diabetes mellitus.

The bloodstream carries glucose all over the body. The hormone called insulin, then converted to glucose, providing energy quickly, or stored for future use.
In people with diabetes, the body can not produce enough insulin, or can not use it properly. This is why excess glucose is usually accumulated in the bloodstream.
There are 2 main types of diabetes mellitus, and the diet for diabetes mellitus, is recommended for both cases:
1. Type 1 Diabetes.
Popularly known as juvenile diabetes. This is where the body produces little, or no insulin. It occurs most often in childhood or adolescence, and is thought to be hereditary.
People with this type of diabetes require daily injections of insulin. They should know how to balance a diabetic diet, with a daily intake of adequate food, and perform physical activities, and take insulin injections to stay alive.
2. Type 2 Diabetes.
It is also known as adult diabetes, this happens around the age of 35 to 40 years of age. And it is also the most common of the two types of diabetes, accounting for about 80 percent of diabetics.
Here, although the pancreas produces enough insulin, the body's cells have a decreased sensitivity to it.
Type 2 diabetes is usually triggered because of obesity, and hence the importance of a diet for type 2 diabetes.
The best way to combat it is by losing weight, exercising and controlling proper diet management. Sometimes, you also need medications, or oral insulin injections.
Symptoms of diabetes mellitus.
- Extreme thirst and hunger.
- Frequent urination.
- Sores or bruises that heal slowly.
- Dry, itchy skin.
- Weight loss without reason.
- Unusual tiredness or drowsiness.
- Tingling, or numbness in hands and feet.
Type 1 or type 2 diabetic patients need a balance in the diet, and in exercise.

Foods to Avoid!
The salt.
Salt is guilty of diabetes. You have enough salt in the vegetables, which inorganic form, so you should decrease the inorganic salt intake.
The sugar.
Table sugar gives much more calories and carbohydrates. Also, you will need calcium to digest sucrose. Insufficient sucrose intake can lead to calcium leaching from the bones.
Natural sucrose must be taken as a substitute for sugar, can be honey, brown sugar, etc.
The Fat.
In overconsumption of fat is not a good habit, and in addition, it is very harmful in a diet for diabetics. Try to exclude fried foods from your diet.
One important point in the diet for diabetics is to try to stop red meat intake altogether.
You can try a vegetarian diet. If not, it only decreases consumption of eggs, and poultry meat. However, you can consume lean fish, about two to three times a week.
Milk products.
